08:30 AM ET 08.03 | Even Tuukka Rask wonders how he'll react to the moment he's been waiting for: being an undisputed No. 1 NHL goalie. Rask said he has already proved to himself that he can play in this league, and do so on a good level. After surprising some observers by signing a one-year, $3.5 million contract on July 1, Rask is aware that his play in 2012-13 could pay big dividends. Even though Rask admitted he felt he could have received a three-year deal similar to the one the Vancouver Canucks worked out with Corey Schneider, worth $12 million, he's looking for something even more long term. "That's always been my goal to sign that long deal," he said. "Sometimes you have to roll the dice a bit and see what happens."

thomas made his own bed...us fans in boston didnt force him out, we didnt ask him to spout off at the mouth about his discontent with the government and i for one feel extremely slighted that he is taking a season off for no real reason what so ever and the team is the one on the hook for his cap hit...

If that's the criteria Danny, Rask is your Vezina Trophy winner this year.

I agree, kind of a shame. he could have been into if not Havelcheck status, at least Varitek status in the hearts of Boston fans....now he just seems like (as we say in Scotland) A "Putz" on the fringe

Thomas won a Cup but really he was a late bloomer that finally had a good team in front of him. I know he won the Vezina and the Conn Smith, that might put him in the HOF, but I can't put him in with the greatest I ever saw.

idk....NHL channel has been playing some of last years Cup games from last years run. Although I tend to agree with you with the year in and year out comparison to other greats; Timmy Thomas made some mind blowing saves during those Cup playoffs......

Considering the odd way in which TT left, it may actually be easier for Rask to take over the #1 spot. He won't be replacing a "legend" and there won't be any tearful "Thanks for the memories" ceremony to go thru. That's a lot less pressure on him from the start.
Nobody expects…
