The next elite receiver

That word sure gets thrown around a lot in the NFL.

I'd say he and Jones could make it the Big five and everyone can fight it out for rankings.

Gee, the NFL lists the 5 top receivers for the 2011 season as:

1. Wes Welker, New England
2. Roddy White, Atlanta
3. Jimmy Graham, New Orleans
4. Calvin Johnson, Detroit
5. Rob Gronkowski, New England

Yes, Andre Johnson was held back by QB injury issues in Houston, and Larry Fitz was held back by, well, by being on the Arizona Cardinals, but the numbers don't lie.

Welker is #1, and if you're looking for the next big one, they call him Mister Gronk.

Welker, I believe has caught more passes over the last 5 years than ANY WR in the NFL and you might be adding B.Lloyd to that list as well.

DD, I won't argue a season's stats with you because that is how the season ended. But, I have a difficult time calling Graham or Gronkowski or any other exceptional TE a WR based purely on stats. I'm not saying my way is right or wrong but you're a TE or you're a WR.

I say that because if you're building a team and looking for WRs, you're not going to look at a TE to fill that spot. That guy is marketed as a TE for a reason, whether it's size and blocking ability or the fact that maybe he's a bit slower and can't be considered a viable downfield threat but has great hands and can handle the contact over the middle. Primarily, I guess a TE is based on size.

Just my two cents.

How could you all be forgetting Cromartie? He's going to have 2k yards receiving with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions all returned for touchdowns this year.

Interesting stuff. Nicks was the best receiver on the field in the Superbowl last February.

Yeah, I thought about that, but the thread says "Receivers" and that's how the NFL keeps the stats, too.

Makes me think of a guy like Revis seeing Gronk coming at him and saying, "That's not fair. He's not a wide receiver! I shouldn't have to tackle him! Why, he's as big as my head coach!"
