09:17 AM ET 08.03 | And, you know what ... he might be right. On a roster that has only Joel Anthony and Dexter Pittman under contract at center, Miami Heat President Pat Riley has reiterated that he sees no need to aggressively pursue a veteran in free agency. "We definitely are going to continue to look for somebody in that spot, but unless there's an injury, we really don't need a center," Riley said during an appearance on WQAM. Among veteran big men who remain available are Darko Milicic, Chris Andersen, Jermaine O'Neal, Ben Wallace, Lou Amundson, Joel Przybilla and Andray Blatche. But as he has since the Heat won the 2012 NBA championship with Chris Bosh as the team's starting center, Riley said he believes the team is covered at the position.

QUOTE(#2):

Not sure why teams don't pound the ball inside on this teamcause you can't beat thim on the wing

Because most teams don't have a lost post presence that is able to take advantage of them on the offensive end.

Anybody who has studied Riley over the years fully expects him to sign two centers within a week. The Heat has 13 players currently under contract, and some pretty good ones too.

QUOTE(#7):

Their run to the championship didn't really go through any teams with a good post presence on offense.Indiana was the only one and Udonis Haslem turned the Pacer big men into fainting goats with that one hard shot he gave.

When you start looking around you have to ask, "Who are the great centers?" Howard, Bynum and who else? I'm sure I'm forgetting someone (I'm out of season) but this era in NBA hoops is much less defined by the center position than any time I can think of.
