Nine future Hall of Famers in Yankees lineup?

08:43 AM ET 08.04 | Now that Ichiro Suzuki's been acquired by the Yankees, a fascinating opportunity has developed. There's a possibility that no team in baseball history will have more Hall of Fame players on it than the 2012 New York Yankees. The 2012 Yankees could be the equivalent of baseball's Michael Phelps. They could merit their own wing in Cooperstown. That's because it's possible they could see nine players on this year's roster be enshrined in the Hall, and that would match the most by any team ever -- the 1931-33 Yankees, who also had nine players make it. "It's truly amazing," manager Joe Girardi said before the Yankees' 6-3 victory over the Mariners. It is indeed. Take a look -- Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez, Ichiro, Robinson Cano, Mark Teixeira, CC Sabathia, Andy Pettitte and Andruw Jones are all candidates for the Hall of Fame. The 1931-33 Yankees had Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Bill Dickey, Tony Lazzeri, Lefty Gomez, Red Ruffing, Herb Pennock, Joe Sewell and Earle Combs.

Given the watered down standard for election to the HOF, 7 is a possibility. And as long as the old timers committee exists ( it should have been disbanded years ago) in time, every player who ever did squat in MLB will become a member.

So is everyone just going to forget how Andruw Jones feel off a cliff since PED testing started? That guy will not make the HOF....

Hmm. Let's look further.
Jeter. Hell, yes. First ballot in my opinion.
Rivera. Hell, yes. Without question.
A Rod. Yes based on stats, but...roiders aren't wanted in Cooperstown. He's a proven one.
Teixeira. No. Pretty good, but not close.
Sabathia. Not yet. Very good, but no.
Pettitte. Based on what? Being a Yankee? Nothing that special.
Cano. One day, almost certainly. But check back in 10 years.
Ichiro. I would vote yes. Super hitter.
Andruw. No. No, no, no, no, no. NO.
That help?

This is what happens when one team has such a hugh financial advantage over all of the others. Not only can the Yankees afford to acquire players such as Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixiera and CC Sabathia but, unlike smaller market teams, they do not have to worry about losing their home grown players such as Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Robinson Cano.

Teixera, Sabathia, Pettitte have no chance for the HOF if their careers ended right now. A-Rod is not a lock either considering his steroid use. Cano is pretty good, revisit in 10 years and Jones is laughable to even mention as a HOF'er.

Technically, since every player is a candidate for the Hall of Fame, the Kansas City Royals currently have 40 potential Hall of Famers.
AMAZING!
I'm surprised the dink who wrote the article didn't include Nick Swisher too.

It's the NY Post. Next time the Yanks drop 2 in a row the Post will run a story about how the talent just isn't there this year, and they are all a bunch of bums.

Thats tainted by the expanded playoff format....you can only have a chance for a win if there's a game to be played....
