09:04 AM ET 08.05 | The Giants seriously were interested in Alfonso Soriano and might have traded for him rather than Hunter Pence if Soriano had not told the Cubs the Dodgers were the only West Coast team he would waive his 10/5 rights to join. Unless he becomes more flexible about where he goes, he still could be the Cubs' left fielder next spring.

Seeing as he's owed $18M per through 2014, I'm glad he didn't come to the Giants. He ain't getting any younger.

Players read the local papers, from which they get lots of weird ideas about everywhere west of the Rocky Mountains. I spent 4 years reading Boston papers, mostly the Globe--every week they would run a full page ad from an airline touting the wonders of California, and opposite that they would run an editorial proclaiming that everyone in Cali is a communist or a nut case. Too many players believe the media.

The Cubs in the off season will have to get some team to take Soriano and pay most of his salary like they did with Big Z to get rid of him.

Playing for fans that root for losers is the right place for Soriano.

This guy will really suck next season.

Ja hey der, Cubbies fans aren't rooting for you so your statement doesn't make any sense but then, again, nothing you say makes any sense.

If Theo had gotten rid of Soriano, that would have impressed me.

August 6, 2012  08:17 AM ET

Theo is going to feed Soriano until the end of his contract!!

What.......no Soriano? Just add everybody's Johnny-Bag-A-Donuts Carlos Lee to the mix, and the Giants could have matching buddhas at the corners in SF. Rag arm Soriano in left, Rag arm Zito on the mound, Hot Plate Carlos at first....................and these all could have happened on Sabean's watch. And this team is still in first place despite a GM, despite his good signings now and then, all of sudden turns into the Lindsay Lohan of GM's...........just a matter of time before something ugly happens.

Eh, send him to the Marlins. They seem to have an unlimited source of money to blow on over-inflated contracts for mediocre players.
