09:43 AM ET 08.05 | Never one to let convention get in the way of a difficult decision, Pete Carroll is being different again. He's having a three-man quarterback competition and enjoying it while many of us consider it as odd as a three-nostril human. A two-man quarterback battle is tough enough. Three? That's a recipe for, well, what? We don't know what because this just doesn't happen in the NFL. But we don't prefer it because we believe a starting quarterback has the most special, delicate and challenging task in all of sports, and if a coach is unwilling to commit to a QB five weeks before the season begins, how can an offense develop without its heart? So, yes, Carroll is being different. I'd call him weird, but let's be honest: When he has gone outside the box with the Seahawks, the coach has been successful more times than not.

After all the hype for Flynn and then the big contract, I just can't see him not being the starter. It would make the Seahawks management look like a bunch of goofballs if Flynn isn't the starter.

Conventional wisdom would say so, but the fact that there is a three way competition going on, means the coaches don't think so..

The Seahawks coaches aren't disclosing who the favorite is but conventional wisdom would seem to indicate that Flynn is the probable starter. If Flynn doesn't start it would make the GM look very foolish for signing him to that big contract.
