08:06 AM ET 08.06 | Though Paul Pierce is buying new furniture for his house -- "I wouldn't have done that if I thought I was going somewhere else," he said -- this season may be his last in Boston. He has one year on his contract with a team option for 2013-14. He said he has no plans of asking for an extension. since [ Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry and Brandon Bass] are signed to three-year deals. "I think I am going to play this one out," he said. "I want to see what it feels like to be a free agent for once. ... My body [may not] be where I want it to be, I could retire, a lot of things could happen. I love the game. I made as much money as I possibly can. It's about winning a championship and if I feel like it's the right thing to do, maybe so [come back]."

I hope he leaves... Although he was the man when they won their championship in 08, He's also the reason Boston hasn't won a championship since then.

Only KG's injury...
They should have won the year Perk got hurt in game 7. The real reason they lost that game was because Pierce was matched by the artist formerly known as Ron Artest. Now when you're the team MVP you have to outplay the person you're matched up against

Rondo's injury:
they weren't gonna win that series whether rondo was hurt or not

Professionalism:
After they won the title, Pierce is a player that always started the season out of shape (the only of the big 3 might I add). It wasn't a problem until last year because they usually still have the best record but they had to fight and scratch this year just to get to the 4 seed. Now had Pierce came into the season in shape and led this team to a better record (like he did in 08!) maybe they have home court against Miami and beat them this year.

Note: It wasn't until the middle of the season when Pierce finally started playing better that the Celtics got rolling and started winning again

QUOTE(#11):

So - they likely would've won the year KG got hurt.....they went to a game 7 the following year- Perk got hurtand how was that pierces fault?you made a blanket statement about rondo's injury 'and they wouldn't have won with or without that' - which is ludicrous as Rondo OWNS the heatI hear you that pp is not an 'elite' athlete...but for you to say he is the reason they haven't won since 08is simply false

You're missing my point. I'm not saying he is the ONLY reason they lost. But in order for them to win he had to be the best player for the Celtics, closing out games and playing at least decent defense. It's those epic performances, like he had against lebron when they beat Cleveland, that a team needs from their superstar. He doesn't do that anymore and hasn't done it since 08. Therefore, time to let him go.

I appreciate what others have contributed but Pierce and Rondo are TRUE Celtics. KG spent 12 years with the Wolves and would have stayed if they could have built something around him. The same for Ray Allen. And yeah I look at life Celtics like Bird and McHale differently than Dennis Johnson, Robert Parish and Danny Ainge. There is something special about playing your whole career for one team.

QUOTE(#14):

I apologize if I didn't get your point- clarification appreciatedI do hear you about him being 'epic'...but I still disagree with you.I rtuly think they would've repeated with kg that next year and they made it to game 7 of the finals the next year- and with a healthy perk- they likely win

I believe they would have repeated too if KG was healthy. Thats the only year I gave you. But Perk getting hurt i can't. Again if Pierce would have had that MVP performance that we had seen before in game 7, they would have won with or without Perk. I just say that because he was capable back then, but now I'm not so sure.
