08:10 AM ET 08.06 | At this moment, Roy Oswalt and the Rangers appear to something less than an ideal fit. Manager Ron Washington planned on sending [Oswalt] out for the ninth inning Sunday. Oswalt had just thrown two perfect innings in his second relief appearance, and was stretched out to the point that his 30-pitch count wasn't worrisome. But Oswalt declined to work a third inning. "He said he couldn't go any further," Washington said. "He said he had enough." Oswalt wasn't available to discuss his situation after the game. Oswalt expressed his desire to remain in the rotation on Saturday, saying he didn't view himself as a reliever. "Roy prefers to start," general manager Jon Daniels said.

If true he will be gone. They aren't going to keep anything toxic in a close clubhouse like they have.

Who does this guy think he is, Josh Beckett?

I am sure Oswalt would clear wavers and some NL contender would probably trade for him.

He's a starter. And he had just pitched the day before for 2 innings (they wouldn't expect any other reliever to do that after a two inning outing). Interesting - it can be taken either as good or bad - but he's been a starter all his life - now he is expected to flip a switch and become a reliever. While as a professional - he should do whatever he can to help the club - there has to be some give on both sides of this arrangement. And by the way - why was this "leaked". A lot of this is going on - airing clubhouse laundry.

Oh? He pitched two the day before and they wanted 3 the next day? Yeah - that's a bit much.

MLB is turning into "TNE"..............."The National Enquirer".....the press will do anything to start a rift between people....or give false perception of people..

Went to the box scores - I interpreted that he had pitched 2 innings on Saturday. After looking at the boxscores - it was LAST THURSDAY the two shutout innings were thrown.

I have officially changed my attitude - OSWALT - get over yourself and take the mound.

Dat what you get when a guy doesn't want to be there!

August 6, 2012  10:25 AM ET

Oh how the might has fallen. First Hamilton and now Oswalt. Shame! Would love to see the Rangers in the WS.

August 6, 2012  10:38 AM ET

If he wouldn't give up 12 hits everytime he starts, they might be more considerate of his feelings towards being a closer.

August 6, 2012  10:59 AM ET

Another puke brained, over the hill, ego maniacal prima donna.

Roy, can you say BYE BYE!

If Smoltz could make the adjustment, so can Oswalt.

August 6, 2012  11:38 AM ET

He's broken down. Why they even signed him is beyond me.

Jon Daniels rolled the dice and crapped out. I could see looking on the bright side of having a veteran in the clubhouse going into the post season, but if is going to pout and complain then he should get the boot before he does any real damage.

Well, hopefully the door won't hit him in the butt on the way out. We don't need prima donnas. Josh is enough of a headache.

They just need to cut there loses with this malcontent.

True. Hamilton might consume it ;)

Oswalt refusing to pitch sounds like a break for the Rangers.

Nope.
