It's too late to give him his own coaching staff. But it's not too late to correct the biggest mistake of the offseason. Valentine may very well still be a good manager in a vacuum, but he's the wrong manager for this team, and he has been since Day 1. ... In an increasingly fractured clubhouse where the team's biggest stars seem to have the least amount of respect for Valentine, the solution isn't to shake up the coaching staff or make a desperate waiver deal. It's to put Valentine out of his misery and give the team a fighting chance.

This was a disaster no matter who they brought in. The offense has gel'd just fine. The starting pitching is fraught with a cancer. What can a manager do when you have head cases in the starting rotation?

I actually like most of his decisions I am aquainted with. And just like most things - when someone new comes in - there is an expectation that they must "DO" something to straighten things out. It's like most of the security stuff in force at the airports - some are very ineffective - but since it is visible - it is looked at as a good thing (perception is all it's about with this litigious society we live in). So he did some things. And has been nothing but castigated for it. If he had let some of it slide - he would have been hung for not doing anything to change the culture in the clubhouse. It was a no win situation after what happened last year.
