08:14 AM ET 08.06 | The Alabama offense is now in the hands of former Washington offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, and, according to Nick Saban, that offense will take on at least a somewhat different look in 2012. [Said Saban:] "He has a lot of good ideas that we've implemented into our offense. The players respond well to him. The adjustments we've made in the passing game are going to be beneficial to our offensive team maybe being more explosive and creating more balance." But what about specifics? Alabama's players and coaches are revealing little, although Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart said Nussmeier uses a few more offensive sets than former coordinator McElwain did. "Obviously, we want to be balanced on offense," Nussmeier said.

Very interesting, they have an ex 12 PAC offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier running their offense this year!!!

It must be hard for some folks who are used to seeing their offense shoot its foot to see Alabama's offense and like it, knowing it doesn't make mistakes and also wins championships.

Nussmeier has been a QB, QB coach and OC at many stops including CFL, NFL, and CFB. Plus I doubt that Saban will let him make radical changes.

This.
Saban is a smart coach and his motto is probably something like "if it aint broke.... DON'T BREAK IT!" Why would he allow someone to change something that has brought him soooo much success?

How long before the announcers make a Freudian slip and call him Doug Neidermeyer (Animal House)?

I think that Saban said, during SEC Media Days when asked the question of changing the Offense, why would any program change from a successful approach just because they got a new coach?
Makes sense to me....
Now Mullen had to put in a new scheme and philosophy. He said yesterday after practice that he is impressed with the athleticism in this years group....the ones previously just didn't seem to get that part....
Heh heh heh

Love the fact that we don't have to see Saban in that god-awful light blue suit :-)

If you work for Lucifer's Vessel, you only do what Little Nicky approves of you doing. It's that simple.
Now, what did Little Nicky see from Niedermeyer... er, Nussmeier that he did like was the opportunity to insert a little twist to the standard LV Bama O - a package of plays purposed to provide explosive punch and put opponents' D back on their heels.
For example, Tricky Nicky makes not of the opponents' D anticipating Bama's O and stifling the results. He drops in his Nussmeier package, gains a passle of yards, and has the opponents' D guessing once again.
Lucifer is not stupid, and his vessel benefits from the indwelling. It's not redical change, rather, it's just the right augmentation to gain/establish an edge.
