Marshall falling under Lovie's spell

08:04 AM ET 08.07 | Before Brandon Marshall came Jay Cutler and Julius Peppers, who each carried somewhat less-than-glowing reputations as consummate professionals. And now, after striking gold twice (albeit at steep prices), the Chicago Bears are upping the ante a notch in their pursuit of that elusive second Super Bowl ring. ... [That Marshall] wasn't treated like a problem child was appreciated. "I've never had a coach come up to me and tell me what he was thinking, and be honest about that on and off the field," Marshall said. "Off the field, they expect me to communicate, and be a pro and a leader in the community. On the field, it was shocking when he walked to me and told me, 'Hey, you're one of the pieces to get us to the Super Bowl.' That says a lot."

The problem with Brandon Marshall is that 95% of the time he's the hardest working, most outgoing guy on the team. Everyone thinks he's great and has turned the corner. Then that other 5% happens and you have violence, blood and sirens. Nobody has really been predict when it will happen, or how to stop it, but it happens.
I hope he's turned it around, but I think he's always one step away from things going wrong.

Lovie is "pieces" obsessed: "you're one of the pieces," "all the pieces are in place," blah blah. That's why the Bears can't get anywhere with Lovie as coach. He's always puzzled.

The Bears are contenders for sure. I see them up staging the Packers this year. Better running game and better defense and now the offense has some deep threats for Jay so let the games begin.

Look at the teams that win, and what do you see? Consistency-- players and coaches together for periods of time so they can mesh, and become a unit rather than "pieces". That's something the Bears have not had for years- consistency in coaching. Lovie's there, but he changes OC and DC more than his socks. Last year the Bears had been with Martz' offence for 2 years and were getting it, so what does he do? Dump the OC. Brilliant.
How does he "fix" it? Brings in a receive that used to know Cutler. Sorry, but the pieces don't fit. Bears 3rd place NFC North. Pack #1, Lions #2, then Bears and the Vikes.

Consistency is certainly part of the story; ability is also a part though. Seattle had Chuck Knox as coach for years, they called him Ground Chuck, partly because of his fondness for the ground game, and partly due to the results. 10 - 6 every year, either just miss or just make the playoffs, if they made the playoffs they lost in the first round. They went looking for someone better because that looked like Knox' ceiling. (I think they would probably take him back about now--10 -6 is starting to look good)

Dude, always a bridesmaid? Ever heard of that? Oh, and how did you like last year's debacle with Caleb Hanie at the controls?
