08:09 AM ET 08.07 | The Lakers still have a bench to fill out this offseason. It's possible the answer lies with Devin Ebanks, Jodie Meeks or both. Whoever it is, the Lakers hope they can find a backcourt player who could reduce Kobe Bryant's minutes and provide needed outside shooting. Philadelphia 76ers shooting guard Meeks could fill that description since the 25-year-old shot in the high 30% range in the past two seasons. Meeks' agent, David Bauman, said Meeks is on the Lakers' radar and that of "four or five" other unspecified teams. But Bauman said Meeks' interest with the Lakers could hinge on a significant variable. "We're happy to talk, but we're not talking minimum for a guy like Jodie," Bauman told The Times in a phone interview on Monday.

So much for the thought Meeks wants a chance at a "ring" rather than the "money"!

Lakers don't really need him, if he was that great of a player Philly would have resigned him and play him more. He's not worth more than the mid level and may not be worth that; he have to prove himself and so far he hasn't.

QUOTE(#1):

Not sure then why there is a story here, cause the only thing LA has is a minimum

as in minimum playing time

Who are the other 4 or 5 teams? Take the minimum with the lakers and you can get the starting job in 2-3 years when kobe retires and have a couple of rings to boot.

QUOTE(#5):

I would want the money. A ring is nice but it doesn't pay the bills in a career where the years of your earning potential are finite.

Which is true..but often times when players chase the money they put themselves in bad situations. Winning teams often produce revenue streams outside of basketball (tv shows, appearances, etc) that can help you long after your career is done. Its a delicate balance...
