08:11 AM ET 08.07 | The Dodgers, under new ownership, have already made some waves and are expected to be an even bigger player in free agent shopping this offseason. [The] fact that they were willing to take on the last years of Cliff Lee's contract -- as much as $102.5 million over the next four seasons -- is absolute confirmation that they would have been extremely aggressive bidders on Cole Hamels if he didn't sign an extension with the Philadelphia Phillies, and they have big plans going into the future. In fact, Zack Greinke -- easily the pre-eminent pitcher on the market this fall now that Hamels has signed -- is set up to be the target of a bidding war between two really rich and powerful entities: the Los Angeles Angels and the Dodgers.

This off season it looks like the Dodgers will be the West Coast Marlins.

the angels placed a top prospect in waivers, wonder what the halos were thinking?? to try to change things its a little bit too late,,,

top prospect

as tough as it is already the halos let go one of the last top rookie prospect in the RHP fabio martinez, this guy was one of the last staters in their minors aside from garret richards the angels lack in quality and talented pitchers in their minors from the last 3 years or so, reagins never did anything good for the minors, strictly the pitching its the worse spot in the angels franchise minor system,,,

LA has made a couple of expensive moves with Hanley Ramirez and Cliff Lee, but they should have the budget to support the payroll. I suspect they will be more like the Yankees or Red Sox than the Marlins.

the dodgers have the money,, they do have great commitment in their franchise and this club its not making any excuse what's o ever, what i like about this team its their resiliant from the owners they do have tremendous determinhation in this franchise and they aren't going to stop untill the dodgers franchise achieved their only goal,,,, bring a world championship to the LA fans,,,,

Cliff Lee,

cliff lee?? well i do know this franchise did try to get cliff lee from waivers but the phillies refused to trade him and pull him back from the waivers spot,,yes the dodgers were willing to take the whole lee's contract, but the phillies still refused,, whatever the phillies were thinking?? i mean if there its a team who would pay in full that contract its the dodgers and nobody else would do such a thing nowdays,,,,

August 7, 2012  11:41 AM ET

the angels wouldn't bidd for greinke, the pitchers its making 13 to 14 millions this season,,, and in the free agent market this pitcher could reach as high as 19 to 20 millions per season, does the halos have any slim hope in signing him???HIGHLY DOUBTFULL!!!

THE ANGELS NEED TO FOCUS IN THEIR MINOR SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT,

there its too many holes in their minor system and that minor league has taked a toll in the last 3 years or so,building a strong minor system its strictly needed and no franchise can develope great players without any talent or tough skills, the angels are so weak in the pitching development at their minor's level that its almost impossible to expect anything from their farm system for another 10 years ,,,,

August 7, 2012  11:53 AM ET

to sign big names,,, its a big difference from higher expectations, the pujols deal was by far the biggest mistake the halos could had made this past season, the player its ok while he its able to hit but one's he starts to decline in his stats and he's age its not getting any younger, time and injuries would be a big factor against the angels hitter, but what its worse the one who really gets affected the most its,,, THE ANGELS!!

August 7, 2012  11:56 AM ET

should the angels try to sign greinke or any other big name next season??? doubtfull, the halos may have the money to do it, but you can't live on the free agent market, the angels really need to reload their farm system nothing more nothing less!!!

August 7, 2012  11:57 AM ET

any franchise who focus in the building of their farm system its expected to become a hugh contender at least in 5 years grace time!!

August 7, 2012  12:00 PM ET

angels had failed to acomplished that goal in their farm system, the last GM who did outstanding job at angels farm system was bill stonman and that was back ten years ago, right now its emty farm system, halos farm system its the weakest from the all 30 teams in the minors!!!

August 7, 2012  12:04 PM ET

develope talent in the minors,,, so you would be able to achieve your goals eventually in the majors, cheap product not good, good product not good, quality its much better than quantity, halos don't even have quantity then how can we become a tough competetor franchise???
