08:12 AM ET 08.07 | For years now, "retirement age" has loomed over Jim Calhoun, who will now again be sidelined by a physical setback. Calhoun told ESPN two months ago that he expected to return for another season but would not make a definitive statement on the matter until closer to the season, following [Dean Smith's lead]. ... "Dean Smith waited until the fall because he said you have to wait until everything settles down, wait until everything is behind you," Calhoun told ESPN. "That's exactly what I'm doing. It's not a mystery." It could be a problem, though. Smith's late exit more or less forced Carolina into the position of promoting assistant coach Bill Guthridge, a decision that led to one of the most tumultuous periods in the program's history
