08:15 AM ET 08.07 | Though it has been decided Cory Schneider is ready for taking over the No. 1 job in Vancouver, the Canucks aren't yet ready to fully clear the crease of a particular conundrum: What to do with Roberto Luongo. FM Mike Gillis' first and best option is to trade him, but that hasn't happened as of August 1. Gillis is looking for what he believes is a fair market deal, and he told NHL.com that any trade involving Luongo will change the Canucks' depth chart at both the NHL level and the prospect level. "We're listening," Gillis said. "If we get what we think the value is there we'll trade him. I don't have a timetable. In fact, in hockey things can change in five minutes with one phone call. It's unrealistic to put a timetable on it."

and, do they even allow Luongo to play/practice with the risk of him getting hurt if they are certain he will be traded?

So what exactly does he think is a fair market deal for an aging goalie that can't win in teh big clutch, and has an albatross contract?

I can't believe this psychopath is playing this hand with the future of his club at stake. You ain't getting lottery picks, star prospects, or young promising talent back for this guy. You'll be lucky if you can save a couple million on the other bad contracts you receive for his ass, or even worse don't have to buy him out. You signed him to a contract that, at the time, seemed like the smart move. It wasn't. It happens, every GM does it. Now **** and stop treating one of your players like a magic bean that is going to sprout your team into a Cup.

Detroit? A one-two tandem of Luongo and Gustavsson, striking fear into tires everywhere? I could see it...

If he leaves behind his liquor cabinet, i'd probably just wind up driving the team even further into the ground. That's a mighty large temptation to ignore.
