Bryzgalov's game lacking more than confidence

08:16 AM ET 08.07 | At least one theory holds that Ilya Bryzgalov's struggles are almost singlehandedly related to his confidence. But to blame confidence as the sole reason for his 3.46 GAA and .887 save percentage in the postseason, when real stars are made, is a stretch. The ability to perform in the clutch is an entirely separate talent, and based on his career numbers, Bryzgalov doesn't have it. In the last three years in the regular season his GAA stands at 2.41 with a save percentage of .918. In the playoffs, it's drastically worse: 3.61 and .892. How about his ability to handle the puck? Never was that lack of skill epitomized more than when he faced the best puck-handling goalie in the league, Martin Brodeur, in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
