08:27 AM ET 08.08 | With Fitz Toussaint suspended indefinitely, Michigan's focus these days is finding a running back to fill the void. Tailbacks Thomas Rawls, Vincent Smith and Justice Hayes all got carries in Monday's first practice, but Rawls is the early standout. The sophomore has the size at 218 pounds and, apparently, the demeanor. "Rawls is angry," coach Brady Hoke said of his approach. "He just runs hard. He runs hard, he's hard to tackle, he's physical, he has pretty good balance. Between Justice Hayes and Thomas and Vince, they all got carries." Rawls was a freshman standout early in camp last season and was lavished with praise by running backs coach Fred Jackson. Then he suffered an injury later in camp and his shot in the wide-open competition faded.
