Arsenal fans call Avs owner cheap

08:30 AM ET 08.08 | That the Colorado Avalanche is more than $15 million under the cap isn't helping matters. What do Avs fans and soccer superstar Robin van Persie have in common? Disgruntled with a championship drought, they both call billionaire sports mogul Stan Kroenke names: Cheap. Cheap. Cheap ... Arsenal is owned by Kroenke. "Right," says Arsenal supporter John Wilson. "I think they call him 'Silent' Stan." Oh, boy. Now it's a nickname that Kroenke can dislike on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. ... Avalanche fans, aching because there has been not even a sniff of the Stanley Cup since the last happy championship toast in 2001, constantly complain Kroenke cares more about the bottom line on his worldwide sports portfolio than stocking Colorado's roster.

This is true of a lot of team owners in different sports, and the main reason I am so against revenue sharing, among other things

August 8, 2012  08:56 AM ET

I think Avs fans can talk to Leafs, Canucks, Flyers Fans etc. about aching for a cup.

Not an Avs fan, but as I recall the Forsberg/Sakic/Foote/Roy Cup years left the team bordering on bankrupt and with very few early drafts picks.
While this owner may be tight with the proverbial purse strings, he may also be trying to pay off debt the team still owes - much to the fans scorn

I agree with 'Silent Sam", it's obvious one of his entourage can't even afford socks.

Speaking of Scottish, I see in the English papers Andy Murray has gone from British to Scottish and back to British in less than a month.
