Hurricanes GM tweets significant extension

08:31 AM ET 08.08 | The Carolina Hurricanes are on the verge of locking up another important piece of the puzzle, this one a young star. According to general manager Jim Rutherford's official Twitter account, the club is close to signing forward Jeff Skinner to a new deal. According to TSN Insider Bob McKenzie, Skinner's new deal is believed to be a six-year extension worth an average annual value of $5.725 million. "It looks like we are going to be able to get Jeff Skinner tied up for a number of years," Rutherford stated on Twitter. "Exciting news for our franchise." Skinner has one-year remaining on his entry-level deal. The 2011 Calder Memorial Trophy-winner scored 20 goals and added 24 assists in 64 games with the Hurricanes in 2011-12.

This is nuts. The kid plays one year in the NHL and they throw almost $6 million a year for six years at him. Not only that he was a minus 8, although I have to admit its better than Eric Staal's minus 20, but still.

Keep in mind 44 points in 80% of season. Doan is gonna get 7-8 mil per year and hasnt cracked 50 points in the last 4 full seasons

Chalmers once dated Agnes Skinner, much to Skinner's dismay (although on other occasions he has mentioned being married). Later, it is revealed that Chalmers is a widower and his wife's name was Rosemary.
Skinner once received a note by Bart's carrier pigeon stating that Chalmers and Edna Krabappel were "doing it"; however, it is possible that the note was merely a prank, rather than Chalmers and Krabappel actually having a fling. Chalmers also once said that he was dating the mother of one of the Springfield Elementary band students.
