08:04 AM ET 08.09 | Now two weeks into training camp, Minnesota remains confident Adrian Peterson will be ready for the Sept. 9 season opener, but he won't be traveling with the team to its preseason opener. Coach Leslie Frazier said the club would re-evaluate Peterson when practice resumes Sunday in Mankato to determine whether to activate their star running back from the physically unable to perform list. ... Ideally, the Vikings would test Peterson in the third preseason game Aug. 24 at home against the San Diego Chargers, since starters usually do not play in the fourth and final exhibition game. But there is no timetable for getting him back up to NFL game speed. "I'm ready to get hit," Peterson insisted.

Don't worry....It will happen.............

I love Peterson's attitude. That's exactly the attitude a pro footbal player should have; anything less, it's time to retire.

Must be tough for AP after going through all his rehab and realize they will be competing for the No. 1 pick in the next draft.

Yeah. There's no point in rushing his return. It's not like they're on the cusp of a playoff spot.

I wish you well AP!!!

It's a shame. AP may never get the stats to be in the Hall of Fame.

good luck AP

That's what he said in the nightclub in Houston last month before he got arrested.

The outcome of the season is not determined by Sports Talk people or SI folks like yourself. Coming off a 3-13 season their schedule is easier this season and I am sure that their goal is to finish at least 500 and not challenging for the number one pick next year.

lol, yep I think that is the case. I wish him well, but not holding out a lot of hope for the seasons.

They also finished last in their division in 2010, so their schedule for 2012 should have the same difficulty as for 2011. It may be their goal to reach .500, but I only see a half-dozen winnable games. Even those are against teams who hope to have improved themselves.

So, if they win half of their "winnable" games, they still end up 3-13. I don't think they did much in the off-season to improve as a team, so I wouldn't expect their record to improve much, either.

If Barry Sanders can get the stats for the HoF playing in Detroit then A.P. can surely do it playing in Minnesota.

Ap is good and all but um....lets slow down and not use Barry Sanders (arguably the GREATEST ever) as a comparison. Only 3-5 backs in history would have got the kinda yards he got behind those terrible DET lines

AP was the cause of the Vickings loss against N.Orleans in the playoffs championship!

That's true but in his defense, I don't think he expected the guy next to him to pull his pants down and start spanking him. I could see why he would find that upsetting. I guess he should pay better attention to the kind of clubs he goes to.

I only wish The NFL Network was available when Barry Sanders played, I would have watched every Game, that being said, I don't watch many of The Vikings Games, AP is Terrific back, but not the game changer Barry was.
