08:24 AM ET 08.09 | Texas isn't afraid to put the term "potential" to the test. The Longhorns' recent decision to extend scholarship offers to high school prospects entering their junior seasons has paid another dividend with the decision of Fort Worth All Saints fullback/running back Daniel Gresham to commit to Texas. The 5-foot-11-inch, 225-pound Gresham rushed 81 times last season for 584 yards and 12 touchdowns. ... Gresham became the fourth commitment in the Longhorns' 2014 recruiting class. His All Saints teammate Demetrius Knox, one of the country's top offensive line prospects in the Class of 2014, is believed to be leaning toward the Longhorns. Last week, the Longhorns received commitments from three other in-state juniors-to-be.

I think I want to commit to the 2017 class of beer drinking at the college of ill repute. However I may change my mind between now and them and decide to become a movie producer in Amsterdam ... really? why is this news?

Now you know why no one could find any evidence in the Hot Dog Gate scandal........... And making offers to this many kids before their junior season is scaring the crap out of me.

+1. Such is risky IMHO. I've coached and been around HS coaching for 40 years. I've seen way too many kids that "peaked" physically and athletically early in HS. Hell, I've seen some that did so in JH. Others aren't even close to reaching their potential.

I think some of those kids that are late bloomers and haven't had access to proper coaching and strength programs have more upside.

Not risky if you willing to not honor the scholly if the kid doesnt pan out... encourage him to look elsewhere...But Mac is soft and I dont think he would do that.. especially at schools that usually have D1 talent

Or it could be the coaches are afraid of something like this. Saw it yesterday at Hobby Airport Bar.
Bum Phillips quote.

"I'm not going to get rid of any player that could come back and beat us sometime in the future. I don't mind people thinking I'm stupid, I just don't want to give them any proof."

This could explain why Bum had to sit at home watching the Steelers win all those Superbowls.

Bum may have never one the big one, but he sure was one of the best coaches to quote. This is an excellent example.

Hmmm, not much from the Texas fans on this one. Even they don't think there's anything interesting about their team.
