Now you know I don't get my hopes up about much here in Hawkland, Otis, but I think the defense might surprise you this year. And they'll have plenty of chances to surprise you because the offense will keep them on the field all the time.

It sounds like a rookie reporter asking question about a rookie LB to a blocking back telling us he will be the man some day, but has never played one down int the NFL yet, how dumb and stupid.

The defense wasn't bad last year, and they seemed to hold on to most of the key players; if a couple of draft choices work out they could be pretty good this year. But they haven't even played a single pre-season game, so ticketing some rookie for the HOF is premature.

One of the reasons for lack of enthusiasm though is that Carroll had his best pro seasons as a Defensive Coordinator, and so far it looks as though he is continuing to build a solid defense, but the offense hasn't shown much. He may not be an NFL level head coach--maybe DC is his ceiling. I'll give him another year, but the offense needs to show some spark.

The Hawks ranked 9th in total defense last year. I guess being in the top ten doesn't impress anyone these days.

So...this guy is 245 and runs a 4.5 and hits people like a freight train, also paired with superior instincts
