Belichick snubs NFL directive

08:04 AM ET 08.10 | Bill Belichick, yet again, proved a willingness to march off-script. The NFL has provided the 32 teams with suggested talking points regarding the replacement officials. The memo says nothing about expressing agreement with the opinions of former V.P. of officiating Mike Pereira, who has been (to put it mildly) a thorn in the league's side during this process. Enter [Belichick]. ... "I think Mike Pereira has made his comments on the officials," Belichick said. "I don't know who knows more about NFL officiating than Mike Pereira, so we'll leave it to him." ... So, basically, Belichick has given the league office the finger, in passive-aggressive fashion. That said, it's hard to disagree with him.

I've seen better crews at high school games. These scab officials are not ready for Division I.

He sure is. And that can be a dangerous thing.

Why should he say the officiating is wonderful? Finger up Bill!!!

August 10, 2012  08:14 AM ET

And which finger did he give them the middle one or the nose picker or maybe a thumbs up.

August 10, 2012  08:17 AM ET

Sadly, it's just a matter of time before the replacement reffs get someone hurt.

August 10, 2012  08:19 AM ET

And what's up with letting a woman officiate ?

If you've never put on pads, you shouldn't be on an NFL field for anything during a game.

No.... Not those pads.

Hard to dissagree, right on the money.

Soon the players will start adapting and taking advantage of potential mis-calls.

August 10, 2012  08:33 AM ET

Good for BB. Goodell goes on and on about the integrity of the game and wants coaches to express bullet points prepared for them a la the Chinese government? Hypocrisy much?

August 10, 2012  08:36 AM ET

A smart, calculated move on the part of BB. When those refs settle up and return , BB will be on their good side. Every NFL HC should spout the same line. always looking to get the next call in your favor.

Is it giving the finger for not saying the truth? Belichick shows admirable restraint. Last night, in the Bears-Broncos stinker, they were awful and it's not going to get better.

Yep... With 15 actual comments about the Pats.

Way to go, Bill. I always considered his hoodie style to be an F.U. to the NFL rule that the coaches wear licensed NFL products on the sidelines. He picked the plainest thing he could, cut off the sleeves and then headed to the sidelines. Ironically, grey hoodies are now a perenial best seller.

The Force has great power over weak minds. These officials have not yet experienced the wrath of Darth Belichick.

Yes, The Hoodie takes care of all the little details, even kissing up to the real officials who aren't there, but likely will be when it counts.
