08:14 AM ET 08.10 | Of course, someone will be playing third base for the Phillies, but the degree to which the player contributes is a matter up for discussion. [Ruben Amaro Jr.] conceded Wednesday a trade may be the only way to fill third base. Amaro believes there is enough minor-league talent to land a quality third baseman. ... "I'm not all that anxious to move young players," Amaro said. "But I think with a couple of the moves we've made, we have added some talent to our system. It may allow us to do some things we maybe wouldn't have thought about doing earlier in the year. We have some catching depth now. We have some more pitching depth. We may be able to deal from a position of strength."

Really? You are the one making the call and trying to convince someone else your prospects are worth a proven , quality player? Tough to do, very tough. If they were that good you would not be willing to move them.

Kevin Youkilis will be a free agent this winter. And he won't cost you any prospects.

Unless they go after the kid from San Diego, the free-agent crop of 3Bs with a future (and, like it or not, Youkliss' career is winding down) is slim, Charlie. I don't see many I'd gut the minor league talent for.

Dodgers would probably pay them to take Juan Uribe....

3B is a tough position to fill right now. Their best bet might be to go with minor leaguer, try to develop their own. I don't know who they have on the farm, but they might be able to trade for someone else's farm hand if they don't have anyone ready. Seattle has a couple of guys who look like they are blocked by Seager. Texas has Olt, but I suspect they are going to put him at 1B next year

Clearly they've thrown in the towel for this season, so why bother to trade for someone now? Let the season play out then see who is available this winter. Why waste prospects if you can sign someone in the off-season? As for Charlie, let him finish out his contract next year then promote Ryne Sandberg to take his place.

Youk on a one year deal. Next problem?
