08:16 AM ET 08.10 | While the Nationals consider limiting the innings of their ace, an NL East rival is considering adding innings to their ace. [With R.A. Dickey] leading the National League Cy Young Award conversation, manager Terry Collins said he still might consider using the knuckleballer more often in September in pursuit of a 20-win season. "Will I? I certainly might, yes," Collins said. "He certainly deserves that shot." ... "R.A. Dickey does not want the perception that he's pitching for the Cy Young Award -- that's not the perception he wants out there by any stretch of the imagination," Collins said. "The only thing he wants to do is help this team win, and if that means he has to pitch more, he's willing to pitch more."

The way he's pitching and having the ability to go deep into games. He deserves a shot. The question - will he be able to go on 4 days instead of 5. They use to in the good old days. And since he is using the "good o' days" pitch - He just might be able to do it.

Good for 'em. Good for RA. His book was a fascinating read, too. He's more than paid his dues. And the knuckler doesn't really strain the arm. I say, go for it!

Why don't more teams go back to the old way of pitching by letting your starters work every four days instead of five. That way your best pitcher gets more starts during the season.

With all of the relief specialists in today's game and the fact that every team has a 5 man rotation, I don't think you'll see the same pitcher every 4 days ever again. If anything, you may see more 6 man rotations and extra rest for starting pitchers.

Part of pitching used to be saving your good stuff for the good hitters, and getting the weak hitters out with stuff that was easy to throw. Now the expectation is that the starters are power pitchers, who blow through the lineup-they go as hard as they can for as long as they can; when they tire, they are replaced by another power pitcher. It is a different way to approach pitching, and it really doesn't lend itself to less rest between starts.
