08:20 AM ET 08.10 | After practice at its topnotch facility in Knoxville, Tennessee packed up for a bus trip to a small college more than 100 miles away. The culture shock should kick in soon. "I don't know the exact location, but I know it's out there in the boonies," said junior linebacker Jacques Smith. With the enthusiasm of a field-trip chaperone, Tennessee coach Derek Dooley donned a T-shirt after Thursday's practice that read: "Milligan College: Undefeated Since 1950." That was the year the Christian liberal arts school disbanded its football program. ... The Vols will practice on Milligan's soccer fields and another green space that has been fashioned by combining the outfield grass of the softball and baseball fields.

This is the UTk version of Bear Bryant's trip to Junction, TX with his aTm team back in the day.

With apologies to Lloyd Bentsen, an adaptation, if you please, of his famous reply to Dan Quayle:

"I knew Bear Bryant. Bear Bryant was a friend of mine. Mr. Dooley, you're no Bear Bryant."

A little of both, fortunately. What's the latest and greatest?

Nothing late and great around here...but it's fixing to be. Season starts soon.

This crew hasn't behaved very well during the off season. Had to bail them out of the pokey several times. Started to call my favorite lawyer for some help...but knew the new wife had ya busy!

You owe a round to all the regulars for being AWOL so long. Guido will owe one too whenever he decides to drop in again.

I will also buy a round for bringing politics onto the board. Definite no-no.

...Lots of hype about USC for this coming season.

I'm hoping the "hype" proves true! heh heh

But the "D" (especially the d-line) still has me worried a bit.
