Can't stop a lockout now

08:21 AM ET 08.10 | It seems bad news for hockey fans is right around the corner. For the "crime" of loving the game too passionately and supporting the 30 NHL clubs too enthusiastically in the wake of the last lockout, NHL fans and customers will now pay the price of watching the league and players demonstrate once more they care more about the business of the game than the sport or the fans. They'll shut the game down, at least for a while, because the fans didn't punish them emphatically for shutting it down the last time. And it appears nothing will stop that from happening. ... The first 20 games of the season, barring something dramatic, are already gone. What gets "offered" today will have little or no bearing on what the final deal looks like.

i read since the last lockout revenue has increased 1 billion dollars, so the business model seems to have been sound ...
maybe if the owners would have stopped handing out huge contracts to 3rd line players and AHL players (Wade Redden, hello) then they would not have bankrupted themselves and now have to screw the fans and blame the players for the huge salaries. what did they expect the players to say "no, I think that contract is too big i would prefer to play for less"

When the day comes that fans treat this like a business too, and we spend our time and money other places -- this lockout-greed-strike horsecraap will stop.

I've said this before, but if it takes another lockout to get Bettman ousted consider it a short term sacrifice for a long term solution.

What I read was there was a huge gap in the $. As the owners want the players to pay for the new revenue sharing. Which makes complete sense, because it is the players responsibility to make sure there is revenue sharing for the owners. Hope my sarcastic font is working

let me see if I have this straight...Donald Fehr, one of the most dislikable people in the world of sports (outside of Boras and Bettman) is willing to have the players work past the deadline date under the olde rules, and this dirtbag, this little weasal won't let it happen? Is he out of his mind, truly? While I certainly understand Durk's "winter wheat" idea, but he has the owner's even more delusional than he is. I hate him, and his demise, hopefully very painful, could not come soon enough for me

Comment #13 is what happens when you only take silver in Olympic diving.

Only Bettman and the NHL owners could make Fehr look good.
But, I don't care anymore. I have plenty of other things to spend my time and money on.

silver unacceptable...then you end up telling people about Column "A" and Column "B"

Because the owners have made truckloads of money with him and they're his boss, not the fans. Players sure aren't hurting either.
