Strasburg closer to September shutdown

09:35 AM ET 08.11 | General Manager Mike Rizzo said nothing has changed in regard to Stephen Strasburg's innings limit this season. He reiterated that Strasburg will be shut down at some point in September, because he, like Jordan Zimmermann last year, is in his first full season coming off Tommy John surgery. Yahoo! Sports reported today that Rizzo said Strasburg would not exceed 180 innings. Rizzo said he has made no such determination and never put any such strict cap on Strasburg's innings total. Rizzo will decide when to shut down Strasburg based, in part, on how strong and consistent he looks when pitching and how many stressful innings he throws, variables that cannot be predicted

If they were going to strictly limit his innings, why didn't they wait and start him a little later so he could be available at the end of the season?

How can Mr. Know It All Rizzo tell his players thinks for playing hard this season, and to the fans thinks for supporting the team , but we are going to shut down our best pitcher and probably there goes our chance to win the big trophy.

I don't think they expected to be where they are--I think they expected .500, and hoped for a little better than that.

On the whole I think both pens have been pretty good; last night was not a good night for the Mariners all the way around though. 2 RBIs on a sacrifice fly, and then wild-pitching in the winning run. They looked like a bunch of rookies, which is pretty much what they are...
