Cubs' Sveum has talk with mistake-prone Castro

09:45 AM ET 08.12 | Shortstop Starlin Castro has improved by "leaps and bounds," but that doesn't make him immune from sessions with manager Dale Sveum, such as the one the two had Saturday. "It went well," Sveum said. "He was, I don't know if 'remorseful' is the right word, but he knew he made a big mistake [on the basepaths in Friday's 10-8 loss to the Reds]." The mistake came when Castro tried to steal second, lost sight of a single to right field by Josh Vitters and was thrown out at third in the sixth inning Friday against the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs trailed 8-3 at the time. Sveum was visibly upset after the game but waited until Saturday to talk with Castro.

The article fail to mention the fielding errors also in the same game. You are right Wilie the screws between his ears need to be tighten.

I would guess that if he was so focused on stealing 2nd that he didn't notice the batter had hit the ball, then he probably wasn't watching the 3rd base coach either. A lot of baseball involves thinking ahead to anticipate possibilities, and then noticing how the play is actually happening--if you are doing that, the 3rd base coach can help you. But if you are focused solely on your performance in the moment, making the right decision as the situation changes can be tough.

Wow! What a harsh penalty! Of course, the Cubbies can't afford to take a .276 hitter out of the line-up. Not with Castro, Rizzo, Vitters, Jackson, and Castillo all making errors in one game. Theo's rebuilding program make take a few decades.
