Big questions facing Mets management

08:21 AM ET 08.13 | Fred Wilpon made a rare on-field appearance over the weekend, but he didn't want to chat with reporters. The principal owner spent the entire time talking to Keith Hernandez at the dugout railing, and when the conversation was over, I approached Wilpon with a question about the state of the franchise. Given the Mets' disappointing freefall, I asked, did he want to give any assurances to the fans about improving the club going forward? Wilpon pleasantly declined. ... But there are questions that eventually will need to be answered about the Mets -- ones that don't involve whether Mike Baxter can be an everyday outfielder. Questions such as: What kind of money can the Wilpons spend this winter? What is their projected payroll for 2013? Is the franchise on the rebound financially?

Are the Mets even mentioned in the article?
The Mets are not in contention so the guys they bring up, didn't they do this already, should not interfere with service time.

lol--I like your interpretation of this mess.

Machado looks like a nice player.

I will take a stab a writing the article that the interns misplaced:

Questions:

1. What to do with David Wright (Club Option for $16 million next year).
2. Do they shut down Johan - since he has been less than impressive since his No-No
3. Do they sign Scott Hairston to an extension.
4. Do they sign Dickey to a contract extension ($5 million option next year at 38 years old).

4 Key questions for Mets Mgmt :-)

Well... They finally change it to the Correct article...

I like my questions better.

Ok, here are some answers the owner might have given if he been talking:

1. We either keep Wright, or hire a real fast runner to be GM so that he can stay out of reach of the angry mob of mets fans
2. We pray for Santana
3. Don't know about Hairston, I'll have to ask Madoff what he thinks
4. Sign Dickey for a year--throwing the knuckler means his arm is probably ok, but don't know if his success this year was a fluke, or if he has really found something

It's a shame considering they were the 10,000:1 odds to win the World Series this year befoe the season started.

Why would Wright even want to stay with the Mets....if he was smart he'd look to be traded ....salvage what's left of his career on a real MLB team.....

the answer to the reporters question???
NEGATIVE,
NEGATIVE,
NEGATIVE,,

August 13, 2012  07:40 PM ET

The Wilpons should just cut bait and sell the team....the product they put on the field everyday is an embarrassment...they're ripping off the fans by charging the prices they charge for watching a glorified AAA team....

August 13, 2012  10:28 PM ET

Wilpon probably told Hernandez to tone it down and stop making it seem like the ship is sinking. Yeah right Wilpon show your face when the Mets need some pieces to make a run at a playoff spot. Instead of showing your ugly headwhen its not needed. I hope for his sake he was telling Keith not to worry he finally decided to spare him and all the Met fans and sell the team. He just felt the need to let him know first.

The Mets are relatively a young team excluding the Ace Dickey and do have a future if..... they need a bullpen and a reliable closer 2) they need a team leader... David Wright is not a team leader or Captain 3) more consistancy from the starters (Dickey excluded) 4) Can a aging Dickey do it again at his age 5) Does the met management really want to win 6) can the Ownership afford to resign David Wright a good ballplayer not a great put the fannies in the seat type player 7) Do the mets have the money to spend on free agents or any of their own players 8) Does any player want to sign with a mediocre team and Ownership and a team that currently really doesnt have a bright future 9) How many players are afrid of all the Local area media coverage. Some Players just cant play in the big NY spotlight i.e. Burnett, Bonilla, Whitson, Grienke, Francisco Rodriguez

The same could have been said about Ryan Zimmerman of the Nats, but he had faith in the team and the overall plan the Lerner's and Mike Rizzo had, so maybe Wright sees something we don't?
