Garrett takes aim at offense: 'Not real good'

08:07 AM ET 08.14 | It seems, in the eyes of their head coach, the Cowboys have work to do. Jason Garrett was pretty basic when describing how his first-team offense looked following a 3-0 victory over the Oakland Raiders on Monday night. He had no choice because the numbers told the story. The Cowboys' starting unit had three offensive possessions and zero scores. The drives featured one first down, a sack and two three-and-outs. "Not real good," Garrett said. "We didn't play with great rhythm." Of the 11 offensive snaps from the first-team offense, there were two good plays. Wide receiver Dez Bryant made a nice leaping catch for a 24-yard gain, and Tony Romo hit tight end Jason Witten for eight yards. Yup, that's it.

Going by the heading and not the story...no kidding Garrett. And all the stupid penalties weren't a real positive either!

Just so y'all know, this thread's debut featured the text from the Jests "Wildcat" story.

Hey, a win is a win, right?
Well, except in pre-season where a win is nothing at all.

It is only preseason game one, but I have always thought Garrett's shoes were bigger than his feet. His career as an OC was pedestrian when you consider he had skill players to work with. He is one of those nice guys that looks good on paper. We shall see.

Thst was a poor excuse for even a pre season football game last night...

The line couldn't block, Romo was chase out of the pocket every time they snapped the ball, the backs couldn't run and the recievers didn't matter. Yea I'd say that was a pretty poor outing. Even for preseason.

i anticipated poor execution because of the offensive line but the continuation of the stupid penalties that have been dogging this team since Parcells left is most troubling.

It was the first preseason game and with MANY, emphasis on MANY starters missing the game.
Of course the interior of the OLine is going to look bad...we are playing 3rd string guys right now.
Livings, Costa and Bernadeau were all out if I am not mistaken?? And Austin did not even suit up alongside others on D.
It is the 3rd preseason game that means the most to me.
Right now, all this game shows is that we need to coach up the depth on this team.
Kudos to the D though...a few turnovers and no points allowed.
Once we get back our oline guys and get them playing, we can go from there...

If this crap is still going on after the third preseason game then I'll start worrying.

It's a Long Season, and plenty of of time to get things together, that's why it's called pre-season! Go Giants!!!

Yup.
The same guy who called the anemic plays that in a sense led to the crap canning of Wade.
I still can't figure out how he got the HC job.
If he has some nasty boudoir pics of JJ, I hope he keeps them to himself.

I do not get the Garrett hate?
What coach would have done any better when your QB missed 10 games in 2010?
Or...with our leaky D?
They made wholesale changes the past 2 offseasons by getting rid of aging vets and names in Dallas while bringing in new youth through the draft and using free agency.
If Dallas can win 8 games with that D last season, while having JG ice his own kicker in 1 loss and the D blow 10pt 4th quarter leads in 3 others, then I see this team winning 10 games.
It is 1 preseason game, lets slow down here for a bit.

Sounds good except for the fact they have a difficult schedule outside of their division (Falcons, Saints, Bengals, Ravens, Steelers) .

I don't get the Garrett apologists.
That icing of his own kicker is a perfect example of his inadequacy. To me it ranks up there with a McNabb not knowing regular season OT games could end in a tie...
