I think they expected more from the kid. They'll sign him in the $3m-$4m per year range for a couple years. I don't expect to see a 6 year or longer deal.

He's dealt with injuries a lot. Wouldn't surprise me if the Oilers erred on the side of caution, but if he remains healthy and starts putting up points, does he remember and resent Edmonton's lack of faith come UFA time? Edmonton isn't exactly NY or LA when it comes to attracting guys. And Edmonton isn't a piece or two from Cup contention, it's going to take a few years at least.

nobody should sign ANYBODY for longer than that

Always the question - try to lock him up little longer for more than he is worth now, hoping it will be a discount in a few years, or play the game of give you what you deserve now and then really pay up later.

Exactly. Either way its a gamble. If you go long term you're gambling that he will get better, if you go short term you're gambling that he won't.

I don't know why you wuold say that the Oilers are very happy with Hall. His injuries are a concern but he shows up every night and has tons of skill, believe me the oppossition knows when he is on the ice. He will get the same deal Skinner got.

I think what will happen is the Oilers pay him and Eberle lots and give them long term deals. These guys are the face of the franchise and the Oil have to show good faith.
Justin Schultz was a highly sought after FA he chose to play in Edmonton so maybe FA's are looking at Edmonton a little differently

They've gotten plenty out of him .... whenever he wasn't injured. If he doesn't abandon his self-destructive, kamikaze style the Oilers won't get much more out of him and might lose him permanently to self inflicted wounds. I hope they move him to center so they can save him from himself.
