08:25 AM ET 08.14 | Still, business is very good for NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. [Bettman] received a small pay raise in 2011, going from $7.5 million to almost 8 million in salary and benefits, according to a report. According to the league's most recent tax filing, the Sports Business Journal reports Bettman earned a base salary of $6,090,173, including $1,711,930 in other compensation, $155,782 in deferred compensation and $25,868 in benefits totalling $7,983,753 during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2011. ... The publication says Bettman's compensation pales in comparison to MLB Commissioner Bud Selig (more than $20 million) and the NFL's Roger Goodell (around $20 million). NBA Commissioner David Stern's salary has never been made public.

And if any of these other guys listed had 3 lockouts during their reign they wouldn't
a) be making as much
b) be employeed by there respective leagues
c) all of the above

C'mon Garbage Man...................who could live on $8 million a year. I know I couldn't. Used cars, no driver, hitch hike to the CBA talks. Let's get the guys together and pitch in a few bucks for him? I'm shocked that he has to labor in poverty. No wonder we have troubles.

It's amazing he has enough money to put food on his table!

He is the CEO of a 3 billion dollar company. So making 8 mil is not that big of a deal. Now I am not saying he is good at his job or anything like that. But CEO's of companies that are that big are usually making 20mil plus

And while this is probably going to be his 3rd lockout, he is just the arrogant spokesman for the big market owners. He is going nowhere.

I was going to say something political here, but have now thought better of it (wrong place for it...)
But if he prsides over another lockout, it may be an "enough is enough" situation

Like my daddy always used to say: You get what you pay for.

Don't! Whale and I got chastised for that yesterday ;) And, rightly so.

Considering how the league recovered so nicely from the last lockout, it's doubtful the owners are worried about another one. Bettman is secure as commissioner as long as he continues to do what the owners want him to do. He's sort of a throwback commish (and wouldn't we all like to throw him back) from the early days of baseball. MLB didn't get an independent commish until after the Black Sox scandal and the owners regretted that for decades - until they got Selig in place.

like I said, wrong place for it....

So when we win the Wit and Quick Retort Cup you're not going to the White House?

August 14, 2012  10:47 AM ET

It would only be fitting if they put COC on the cup for you
