08:26 AM ET 08.14 | Eligible to sign an offer sheet with another club, P.K. Subban has yet to do so. Subban wants to remain in Montreal, and despite the fact the restricted free agent defenseman is still without a contract for next season, he remains optimistic he'll have a long career with the Canadiens. "There's no question that people know that I enjoy playing (in Montreal)," Subban told NHL.com. ... "Maybe a lot of people were expecting me to have (the contract) done by now, but I know that it's a process," Subban said. "When it's going to happen I'm not sure. I mean, it could happen next week; it could happen a couple of weeks from now. I just hope it gets done sooner than later."

There is a rather large assumption in that statement that someone has offered or is willing to offer him an offer sheet and me thinks not

i think he need to gtfo of montreal..find a team that will back him up so he doesnt have to flop around like a soccer player and cut the garbage.. he could be an elite puck moving d-man with the right team

but he needs to stop the punky stuff too. He is a sneaky player, and after awhile, teams won't put up with that stuff either

i think with the right team he wouldnt have to pull that punk bs...if he just focused on the game and didnt pull his punk b.s. he wouldnt be looking for a contract in aug

so are you saying The Flyers are out (early am tweak)?

August 14, 2012  09:49 AM ET

Perchance the reason he has not signed an offer sheet from another team is because he hasn't received one. He is a good, puck moving defenseman, but he still has the downside that Spiny so eloquently summarized.

Funny you should mention that. Another Flyers D-man is out for several weeks after having hip surgery. Lilja won't be back till at least November. Granted he's not an everyday player, but considering how bad things have gone with blueliners this off-season, it would not be surprising if Holmgren tried to sign P.K.

Sadly, it may have reached these depths.

as far as I know the main problem is that PK's expectations are really high, especially given how crazy the market went this summer. On the flip side, the Habs brass (even with a new group in place) refuse to get with the times and refuse to react with the market. What would have probably seemed to them as generous 2 months ago is considered a bargain today. Compared to alot of deals that went down this summer I'd have to look at Karlsson's as an absolute steal for Ottawa. What I heard was that Montreal wanted to offer south of that deal and won't budge.

It's really ugly, and I think that at this point the best shot at keeping Subban in town long term is an offer sheet. The Habs refuse to overpay, but with an offer sheet in place they wouldn't have a choice, they can't afford to lose Subban. Other teams know this so they're going to sit back and let the Habs shoot themselves in the foot by having to offer a 2-year type deal.

other than Weber, when's the last time we've seen a franchise place an offer sheet?

PK Chelios will have a long NHL career.

And no way Montreal lets him go.

Thanks for that Foil. I like the inside scoop.

No way they let him go elsewhere.

Speaking of "irked", I've noticed the NFL threads using this in their headlines. Friggin' poachers! Irked is our term!

Now back to the thread.
