08:09 AM ET 08.15 | Maurice Jones-Drew's holdout is nearing its third week, and the Jaguars continue to make plans for life without him. Coach Mike Mularkey said Tuesday that Montell Owens has won the backup running back job even though he has carried the ball just 14 times in his six-year career, including 10 last season. Rashad Jennings, who was slated to be the backup running back, became the starter in Jones-Drew's absence. "I'd say Montell is the backup right now," Mularkey said. "He's done a lot of good things. Third down, he's been very good. Every opportunity he's had to carry the ball, he's shown some good running skills." Owens ran five times for 20 yards, including a seven-yard touchdown run, against the New York Giants Friday night.

Great work, TnR. Catchy headline with a bust story that didn't even work with its own headline. Idiots!

Would have liked to hear about the Jags and MJD instead of this FN screwup. Holdouts by running backs never seem to turn out well and the Jags are even more hosed than usual if he isn't ready to go this season.

They missed out on their attempt to get Tebow. Now, they haven't got a prayer.

no matter..they will be giving the Viqueens a run for their money for that coveted No. 1 pick next April.

Excellent. I should be able to get him with a later pick in FF. Also, he'll have fresh legs when he runs out of money and comes back to pay.....I mean play.

If he comes in late he's going to tweak a hamstring or something like that and limp his way through the season.

MJD was their whole offense last season. Pay the man!

The 32 NFL owners need to quietly agree that MJD will never play another down in the NFL. Ever. But they won't do it. They should have done it years ago to Mushmooth Owens and Chad OchoPsycho, but they're still eligible to be signed.

Putting aside the legal issues this would engender, this would never happen. While most of the owners might be ok with this, there's always a guy like Jerry Jones who will do what he wants and make any move he thinks will help him win.

They were a bad team with him, I guess you can be a bad team without him. We are not talking about the missing piece here that is the difference between a title or not. That is the difference.
