Best offensive weapon at Texas? A freshman RB

08:27 AM ET 08.15 | Mack Brown recently asked his staff to draft Texas' top 24 players on offense and the best 22 on defense. Sadly, Mack declined to reveal any of the picks. No word on Mr. Irrelevant either. We're all just praying it wasn't David Ash or Case McCoy, but it would be surprising if either Longhorn quarterback ranked in anyone's top five. ... Freshman tailback Johnathan Gray tops my offensive list. He ran one of the two plays out of the Wild Horn formation and could easily fill that void. He also has great hands to grab passes out of the backfield. Oh, and he may be a top 10 back nationally. Fellow running backs Malcolm Brown, who Mack said had the best performance of any of the backs in the scrimmage, and Joe Bergeron also rank among my top four.

I thought the best offensive weapon at Texas is the place kicker.

You mean the old one, or the new one they got from Ped State that's injured?

Use 'em all. Fresh legs. Give one the ball during a drive. Let him leave the field breathing hard. Get the D to force 3-and-out. Put in a fresh back for the next drive. Sub for specific plays, and so on.
