Bears' backup plan without Urlacher

08:04 AM ET 08.15 | Clearly, the Bears will miss having Brian Urlacher in the lineup if he can't go in the season opener after having arthroscopic surgery Tuesday. But probably not as much as they've missed him in the past. ... Hunter Hillenmeyer replaced Urlacher at middle linebacker [in both 2004 and 2009] season, though Nick Roach started three games in the middle in 2009. "Hunter always did a good job, whether it was middle or outside," linebackers coach Bob Babich said. "But Hunter Hillenmeyer isn't here. Nick Roach did a good job -- not to disrespect Hunter at all." Among the differences this year -- if it comes to it -- is that Roach is a five-year veteran with more experience at middle linebacker than anybody who has backed up Urlacher.

Plan "B".

Everybody needs one.

Every time someone talks about the Bears chances for a playoff spot, they add "if they can stay healthy."

Here we are after 1 preseason game, and we have to say it already.

I'd rather need Plan B than Preparation H.

So much for his "on paper" theory that was on here a few weeks or so back.

A Roach for Urlacher. Sure, why not? Can't hurt.

It is time for them to shed some of these older defenders and get young....

"Plan 9 From Outer Space" would be as effective for the Bears.

DD, funny how a depth chart works for different teams. Consider the Pats or Pack and their success with back-ups and then teams that can't lose a single piece without crumbling.

Urlacher is one tough SOB, he won't miss many games. Da Bears!

Same can be said for the Eagles, Packers, Cowboys, Pats..

Most of us don't use "Cowboys" and "playoff spot" on the same page, let alone the same sentence.
