08:12 AM ET 08.16 | During this offseason, Amar'e Stoudemire can hope to turn the page on a tremendously trying season, both on and off the court. The mission began last week, on a quiet ranch in Katy, Tex., where Stoudemire took the first drop-step in a midcareer makeover. The pick-and-rolling, power-dunking star is now a student of the low post. His teacher is a soft-spoken Hall of Famer with a Nigerian accent and two championship rings. Hakeem Olajuwon, a former Houston Rockets star and an oracle of the low post, is pleased with his pupil???s progress. "You won???t believe it," Olajuwon said in a telephone interview from his ranch outside Houston. ... "It???s night and day," Olajuwon said. "What???s so nice is he wants it; he likes the post."

Can You Shake, Rattle And Roll, Bro?

Good to see Amare is putting in work to get better this offseason. He needs to do this because I'm pretty sure he isn't going to get his athleticism and explosiveness back.

<crosses fingers>I hear hakeem is an honorable man....so I hope he isn't lying through his teeth about amare

Hakeem may be right on but you also have to realize that STAT has eye, back and knee problems. His body can only take him so far. Personally I think it's fair if he retires so we can use the cap space to go after Chris Paul...

True..post moves can extend his career and make him a more valuable piece of the puzzle NYK are trying to build. I always thought that he should have been on the block more, he can use his relative quickness (for a PF) to face up and pump fake-make a move rather than shoot the jumper
