As opener nears, no QB separation at Auburn

08:20 AM ET 08.16 | Clint Moseley may have been limited by a hurt throwing shoulder during Wednesday's scrimmage, but it didn't seem to change Auburn's quarterback race. It's still ongoing, said Gene Chizik when the night was done. Kiehl Frazier and freshman Jonathan Wallace shared most of the early work. Moseley got in for some late duty. Chizik talked again of inconsistent play among the quarterbacks. "We had our moments. There were some good things. I think we're too sporadic," he said. Chizik said the game tape would provide "great evaluation for us." Chizik didn't budge Wednesday, however. He didn't name a starter. "That plays back to the inconsistencies we're trying to address as a team," he said.

This isn't news. IIRC, 'Bama had the same problem at this point last year (as I'm sure a number of college teams did).

Of course, this might be a problem if they keep deciding to not decide, and play each QB some each game. That rarely works in the modern game.

I would bet on Frazier being the starter..And I got the Barners ova Clem$on

So in picking Aubie, you are thinking Chiz's whining about inconsistent play both by the QB and the rest of the team is just coachspeak then? I think that's gonna be a close game.

Guess you are hoping Clemson has forgotten the whipping they got the last game. Or, is WVa>Aubie?

I think Boyd will be the difference maker for Clemson, not saying they are my pick yet.

Speaking of picks, when will the first Pick'em list hit the site, LUS?

QUOTE(#16):

At least Coach Chizik has the happy problem (as with several programs) of picking a starter from a stable of QBs. The same can't be said at the University of Maryland, who yesterday lost starting QB C.J. Brown for the season due to an ACL injury. Former Terp QB Danny O'Brien had already transferred to Wisky. Maryland now has to play a true freshman for the season, as well as groom another backup or go to a lot of wildcat formations.

The problem is that auburn has to choose between Moseley and Frazier and if Frazier has not separated himself from moseley, then they are in deep trouble. Moseley was used and abused last year.

Other problems they have are that their defensive coordinator after each scrimmage keeps saying things like, "We need a lot of work."

I know. I know. It's auburn and I'm an Alabama fan. The Van Gorder remarks are straight from him, though. As for the Moseley remarks, just go rewatch the games he QB'ed for auburn last year.

Here's the brutally honest scouting report (from me) on auburn. They will be starting 2 true freshmen on the OL. Their older LBs are getting beat out by walkons. Their DL is good, but there is no depth.

QB - well, I just commented on that. RB - Their best guy was kicked off the team. The rest might be OK, but not a lot of exp beyond McCaleb who goes about 175. I already spoke on the OL. They have decent receivers, but that will only get you so far.

Feel for the kid...but Maryland deserves it because of the way they've handled things lately. JMO.
