Tens of millions of reasons why players will cave

08:32 AM ET 08.17 | Among the motivations that might end a lockout is most obvious -- the threat of lost salary -- and no distant memory for many veterans of the 2004-05 "season." That's one of the biggest reasons I still think that any potential lockout won't last more than a few weeks, or a month at the most, despite all of the rhetoric being spewed from both sides on Wednesday. At some point, the NHL's veterans and elder statesmen will step in and make sure a deal gets done. There are myriad other reasons why another lost season doesn't seem likely to me, but that may be the biggest. ... [Joe Thornton] is set to make $7 million in 2012-13, but lost out on more than $6 million in 2004-05, when he was still under contract to Boston.

okay...two (2) points about this piece:
1) Wasn't the lead yesterday that the OWNERS will cave?
2) Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that they used Joe Thornton's picture in a piece with this title?

Here's a thought. Maybe neither side will "cave" and they will actually arrive at a compromise. Naaahhh.

So the real question is...in event of the lockout does that mean each King will get an extra day with the Cup and we'll see more parties in Vegas?

If they really wanted to get this done they (Players/owners) would sit down for a week straight and hammer this out. Nobody leaves until the deal is done.

Honestly, if I am a player and a member of the PA and I can afford to; I say strike. PA made a pretty good offer some F 'em....walk away. Your gonna get immediate contraction....your gonna have franchises who wont be able to make interest payments on loans, nor pay the notes on buildings/practice facilities etc, and sponsorship deals will dry up, not to mention TV contracts.......let Buttgoblin simmer in his little Napoleonic complex
