07:27 AM ET 08.18 | The Rangers arrived in Canada less one Canadian. Right-hander Ryan Dempster, a native of Gibsons, British Columbia, who was scheduled to start on Saturday, did not travel from New York to Toronto with the team Thursday. The club said Dempster left the team for "personal reasons" but declined to divulge details. Right-hander Roy Oswalt is scheduled to start in Dempster's place. Dempster is expected to rejoin the team Monday in Texas, but it's uncertain if he will pitch then or be skipped on this turn through the rotation. Rangers officials stressed the situation was not serious and emphasized that Dempster was not in Canada. Until Thursday, Dempster had said he was looking forward to making his first appearance in Toronto since he grew up as a Blue Jays fan. It is believed that passport/immigration/work visa complications arose for Dempster. He has not played in Canada since 2002. Rangers officials also said that, in the highly unlikely event the club were to return to Toronto for postseason play, Dempster would not have a problem traveling with the club.

Maybe its political--you know, the Canadians heard he had been "terrorizing" the National League, and put him on a no-fly list. It will take a few weeks to straighten out.

All he has to do is ask for political asylum. Canada lets anyone enter who makes the claim. Jeesh! Most likely it was the Rangers who asked Canada to not let him in.

Illegal immigration... Someone call the INS.... Can he pitch in Ariizona without being deported???

Could be tax exile. If you are Canadian, but live abroad, you don't have to pay Canadian taxes. That is why many Canadian pro wrestlers re locate to Florida.
