MLB to test replay systems in NYC

07:43 AM ET 08.18 | New York will be the proving ground for replay in baseball. Major League Baseball owners have agreed to test two separate replay systems during games in the coming weeks at Citi Field and Yankee Stadium. If the tests prove accurate, the sport's replay system could be overhauled next season, according to a report by Yahoo! Sports. Baseball will analyze a radar-based system and a camera-based system, both similar to the replay format used in tennis. The use of the system in New York will be just for study and will not be applied during games. MLB wants to ensure the accuracy is up to standards before moving forward and debuting it in the other 28 ballparks.

Try getting your Umpires to work a Little!

The real problem is the lazy butt umps, some of them think they are the game, and a lot of the time are making calls out of position. Nothing wrong with instant replay sometimes, but make them do their jobs are replace them with people who are hungry for the opportunity to work MLB games

The real problem is with balls and strikes, and inconsistent strike zones. I would rather have robo-ump calling the pitches--it might not be perfect, but it is the same for every pitcher and batter, and the same from one inning to the next.

I feel exactly the same way. Put it up on the big board, and let the ump watch it with everyone else. Sad that fans can get a call right, but not the umps.

The Machine would of course would still have to check with both 3rd and 1st base machines on partial swings? What a joke, if I were an umpire, I would never allow that to happen, those other Umps befor the game would be told not to make any checked swing calls!

umpires are blowing a lot of calls and are indignant about it when argued with. other sports also have big problems with the officiating. get people who get it right and don't think they are Gods.

So true, these guys are way out of position. Just watch the Orioles game last night, terrible call at home plate with the ump way out of position.

Now that I got how I feel about the Wilpons off my chest.....I would love to see technology somehow involved in umpiring....I'm not nor will I ever be a fan of the Maddux/Glavine. 4-5 inches off the plate strike....home plate is 17 inches wide if it's not over the plate then if shouldn't be a strike....it's not 19-22 inches wide its 17...and when the umpire is kneeling between the catcher and the batter he's not even directly behind the plate and has a bad angle....
misjudging the outside calls quite a bit in my opinion....

I'm not in favor of replay ... at all, even now. The human error is part of the game and should be. What I am in favor of, is having a discussion with the ref crew about what is a ball and strike. Stop stretching the damn thing. Get in the right position and make the damn call. And on that note ... stop all this nonsense with the batters ... stepping out of the box and re-adjusting those damn batting gloves 14 times before stepping back into the box ... speed the pitching up ... c'mon ... this is **** baseball ... play it.

Good to see I'm not the only one. The more people want to use technology to make the officiating perfect, the less enjoyable the games become. Train and expect the umps to be consistent and play ball.

If this slows down the game, like it does in the NFL and the NBA, then I am against it.

Look at that picture. Selig can't even grip the baseball right. But he has a death grip on The Game and each year it dies a little more.
