08:05 AM ET 08.20 | Neither Ryan Tannehill (11-of-23 for 100 yards) nor Matt Moore (5-of-15 for 57 yards) distanced himself Friday. While coach Joe Philbin said Sunday his decision on a starting quarterback "could be" made this week, he also hinted strongly that it will come after Friday's home pre-season game against Atlanta and not before. "We're going to start nailing down our personnel," Philbin said [Sunday]. ... "We may have a decision soon, or we may play it out another week. That's still up in the air. We certainly haven't come to any decision on that right now." While Philbin praised his quarterbacks for not turning the ball over until third-stringer Pat Devlin threw an interception on the second-last play of the game, his overall assessment of the QB play was less than complimentary.

Everyone knows it is just a matter of when, not if, Tannehill becomes the starter. Moore is day old bread, Tannehill sells hope and buys a rookie coach and the GM a few more years. The question they are pondering is do they throw him in the deep end now or five games from now?

I agree its a matter of "when". I think they would prefer to start Moore, and if he starts to struggle, put Tannehill in. That way the fans/crowd will be calling for him. If they start Tannehill from the start and he struggles, maybe they fear the fans will turn on him.

I guess the only thing left to determine is if he can handle being thrown to the wolves of is it better to let him sit behind Moore and learn the ropes for awhile.
Personally - I'd let the kid sit.

Matt Moore was one of the few bright spots in Miami last year, coming on after it was already too late. When you think about it, he may be the reason that they got Tannehill instead of Luck or RG-III.

I agree. David Carr was ruined by the end of his rookie year. He has never recovered. Sit him for a while. He will learn little from Moore, but a lot about the game by watching up close.

Nobody was going to out stink the Colts in that Luck derby last year. They game planned that one. Personally, I think they should have a lottery for the number one pick each year. The bottom ten teams go in to it, or bottom five.
The integrity of the NFL becomes very questionable those last few games for too many teams.

I was watching the Giants-Jets on Sat night, and when Carr was playing they put up his career stats on the screen. 266 sacks. Unbelievable.

I'm not sure that would be better. As it is, you've got 3 or 4 teams doing the Chinese Badminton Girls thing. If there were a 10-team lottery at the bottom, wouldn't we have 12 or 15 teams all deliberately tanking to get into the lottery?

Perhaps. I do know this, any team that makes the playoffs should be given extra salary cap room. There needs to be some reward for success.
That is why I admire teams like the Patriots. The cards are stacked against any team that is successful year after year, but yet they work their through it.

He was abused in Houston those years. Some of it his fault, he holds the ball a long time, but that was a crime what happened to him there.

See how much trouble you can get into doing one of those diet commercials and saying you're feeling better than you have in years? If Big Ben's arm gives out, we might be seeing Bradshaw coming back as well.

Must say I do agree on this point. The lower tier teams tank at the end and they could make a difference with a win as to who goes to the playoffs. Fans get screwed when they paid good money and teams make no effort to win for them as they want better draft pick. Seems Indy did make a good decision with their pick.

No decision on the starting QB, but in other news, Ochocinco is still fired!

Do they still have "relegation" in European soccer? It used to be, at least, that the bottom teams got moved down to a lower-level league each season, while the top teams from that league got to move up. Obviously, the top-level league's teams made more money, so it was always in everybody's best interests to play well and not get relegated.
But, that's not the American Way, is it? We reward those who repeatedly make bad decisions and don't put out much effort, everyone from welfare mothers to NFL owners who cash their league checks and don't bother to look for top talent.

They should have brought Donald Trump into Miami for that Hard Knocks show.
