Dodgers might have eyes for Santana

08:14 AM ET 08.20 | Johan Santana didn't endear himself to many potential suitors coming into the weekend. But if the former ace is as healthy as many Mets people claim, and he stabilizes before the end of the year, could the team eat money and move him? The Daily News ran this question by several scouts and rival executives. One general manager floated an interesting suggestion: the suddenly flush Los Angeles Dodgers. "I don't have a feel for what his market would be -- especially with (the) Dodgers added in the mix," the GM said in an email. The logic behind speculating about the Dodgers and Santana, which we ran by several other baseball folks after hearing that suggestion, involves Los Angeles' recent willingness to assume more salary than most other clubs.

How amazing it is now since the story has got out that the Dodgers have plenty of money, and every day you read that some player LA is interested in or going to be traded there.

To be a contender, they believe they need a third pitcher to go alongside Kershaw and Billingsly in the playoffs, and they need an upgrade in their normal 5 man rotation.

i wonder if the anonymous GM quoted wasn't the Mets GM, hoping to stir up some interest. LA might need another pitcher, but Santana looks like someone you get for next year, not someone you get to be pitching in October of this year.

They had a very good road trip -- Let's hope they put the beat down on the Giants.

With Kershaw, Lilly (when Healthy) and Capuano they already have 3 lefties... If they ditch one (Lilly??) then this makes some sense, but to have 4 lefties in the starting rotation would be very odd... but it would have to be next year... unless the Mets eat a bunch of his contract...

If this were before all-star break then Dodgers might have gone for it. At the time Santana still holds a low 3 ERA. But one can look ahead beyond this season. If Santana gets some of his velocity back next year, Dodgers will have the best 1-2 punch in MLB.

Capuano has shown some promise, but he's still a bit inconsistent. That said, any team can be improved by adding a better pitcher to their staff.

I'm no Pitching Coach but Santana sure looks like he either needs a rest or worse than that, he's being controlled by a pitching demon (I pitched too many innings this year, can't do it) in any event he's a great team player!!!

santana would need to change his role as a pitcher, he very well could switch from starter to a long reliever role, the dodgers should look around for any other options,, the angels aren't going any where, perhaps the halos could trade zack greinke to the dodgers and both teams could help each other, greinke still has tremendous fastball at 97 MPH and he does have a great reportorie in his pitching arsenal,,

everything starts with teams trust and confidence in the pitcher, the pitcher has done a great job in the rotation but sometimes the offense isn't helping the starters that somthing it make the starters as if they weren't doing their job!!!

They might need a third pitcher... but Johan ain't it...
He is 100% (alright maybe 90 % :-) done...
Look at his stat lines for July & August.
The dude at the Daily News thinks the Dodgers (or any team) is gonna give up something AND eat salary for that?

He had some pretty bad starts in July. But it's looking like he's righted the ship.

Righted the Ship?
He hasn't given up less than 6 earned in his last 5 starts.
Gonna start calling him "meat" soon :-)

well then its time to send him to the minors as a rehab assaigment just to help him to get back in track, i mean baseball season its 162 games season and even if we don't want to acknowledge the starters are the one's WHO always take a beat up in their bodies and so on,,,
