08:19 AM ET 08.20 | It's not all pessimism in the case of Joey Votto, who won't make this week's trip to Philly, which concludes Thursday. It remains uncertain when Votto will return to the Reds' lineup, but he is getting closer. "I'm healing every day," Votto said Sunday. "I'm more able to do different things, but it's going to take its time. Whenever it's ready." Votto took some grounders and did some running on the field before Sunday's win at Great American Ball Park. Votto also has been playing catch. Votto had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee (torn medial meniscus) July 17. Votto had a second procedure Aug. 10 to remove some loose cartilage, after re-injuring the knee while practicing slides.

The Reds are on cruise control with that big lead they are enjoying, so they can wait as long as it takes to get Votto back 100 per cent.

You got that right. After he went down, they went on a tear.

They were fortunate to be entering a soft spot on the schedule--and they took excellent advantage of it! But they will need him back for the end of the season and the playoffs.

Good Jobs by the Reds for keeping it together while Votto is out...
But who thought it was a good idea to have him go thru sliding drills while on the DL?

I can't wait until his return. Since Dusty is a master at throwing crazy/stupid lineups out there, why not put him at leadoff? The reason the Reds have been successful is because everyone other than the leadoff hitter has stepped up. And thats excluding Bruce. Try filling the void at leadoff while you have the room to play around. It's not like Votto was a RBI machine anyway, only becuase guys were never on while he came to the plate. Pretty sure another great Reds hitter batted leadoff for a majority of his career back in the day. I would like to see this happen, but I wouldn't bet on it : o

wiseup:When Votto comes back, Dusty should lineup like this: Phillips, Cozart, Votto, Ludwick, Bruce,Frazier, Stubbs, Hannigan/ Meso, Pitcher. Some people might question phillips at leadoff. Last year Phillips hit leadoff in last 38 games last year. In those games Phillips hit .350 with a .417 obp.Vottos RBI total;s went up accordingly.
