08:20 AM ET 08.20 | It's early, but junior transfer Danny O'Brien is already having a great week. University of Wisconsin football coach Bret Bielema announced on Sunday that [O'Brien] would be the team's starting quarterback for the opener against Northern Iowa on Sept. 1. That should not surprise anyone who was following the progress of the Badgers' three-man quarterback competition -- which also included fifth-year senior Curt Phillips and redshirt freshman Joel Stave -- during the five practices that were open to the media last week. The manner in which Bielema made the announcement might raise some eyebrows, however, since he did it on his Twitter account. "Both Curt and Joe had great camps as well," Bielema tweeted.

?????O'Brien played for Maryland last year. He's an undergrad (junior). He's transferred to Wiskey and will play for them without sitting out a year.?????

Wisky has an exempt clause??? He is from North Carolina, so it is probably is not a Hardship transfer.

NCAA never makes sense.

Why would a QB commit to this school? They'll just bring in someone to start from another team.

O'Brien has already graduated college, so he is not required to sit out a year. Wisconsin did the same thing with R. Wilson last year.

He's a JR in CFB terms and a grad student in academic terms.

Same as GG at SMU.

NC State needs to make things more difficult for QBs to graduate. Two in a row. As an incoming junior, O'Brien graduated in two years while playing football, probably red-shirted so three.
