08:13 AM ET 08.21 | On the upside, the Giants do have some time to think about their options with Melky Cabrera, whose suspension is set for 50 games. Major League Baseball could punish him further for the phony website scam. That said, I'm getting a strong sense that the Giants' higher-ups are so angry with Cabrera for taking a performance enhancing drug and sticking a knife into their playoff hopes, that the chances they would let him appear in any postseason games this year, if he's eligible, or re-sign him for 2013 are close to nil. Besides their anger with Cabrera, the Giants, from what I'm hearing, understand that they need to be proactive about distancing themselves from the steroids story even if they are being branded unfairly now.

The Giants will get another player next year to take the drug heads place, and of course Melky will convince some team next year he is drug free, sign another big contract, and if the team is lucky get just another average ball player.

Anybody that takes him back is silly. Suspend these guys permanently and the drug problem would disappear immediately.

He should be done with the Giants. The penalties need to get stiffer to be effective. Also the Giants management shouldn't complain about his hurting their playoff chances considering he boosted their win record with his steroid use in the first place. He's a real loser to think he could set something up on a website after the fact to cover his test results...duh, you can get the dates for when the web site appeared off the internet. Plus it shows some very deep flaws in his character.

I agree.

Somehow this was a surprise to people. Watching Melky come up and play a few years with the Yankees, it was obvious that he was a hard working, middling player. The question is, why doesn't the powers that be, scrutinize sudden profound production leaps in players?

Sounds like a cheap pickup for Billy in Oaktown......

No doubt but there are still dopes out there who insist that PEDs dont help that much and that the guys still have to hit the ball. If it didnt help so much, these idiots wouldnt still be cheating.

You make a valid point--but remember-- the Mecca for non-english speaking ballplayers from the 3rd world is Miami...A knucklehead of a coach---a fat paycheck + a town that a foreign guy can go to all year-- without even trying to speak english..Melky can barely utter an elementary sentence in english... As a Giant's fan--I hope he's bounced for life...

Stop hatin' on Miami Cliff. The diversity of the people is what makes it great. I find it much better than the generic Sun bleached, pot head, no worries bums of San Fran.(since we're being stereotypical)

Someone will sign the guy, the question is. for how much?

August 21, 2012  10:30 AM ET

I wonder how many close scoring SF victories Melky had a effect on?

Sun-bleached San Francisco? Apparently you've never visited our fair City.

HA!

"Generic" was where I found the humor in that post, but sun-bleached just proved the cluelessness.

BTW, Melky should never again take the field as a member of the SF Giants. However, Sabean has some work to do.

Guess the 2009 Yankees' WS win is tainted...?

No chance. Everyone out there knows their team doesn't cheat. It's only the Giants and melky. Like how we all knew Manny never did ped's when he was in Boston, just waited till he got to Cal. Clean up baseball, even tho we would probably stop attending.
