08:15 AM ET 08.21 | Is there more to Roger Clemens' comeback story than the Sugar Land Skeeters? Mike Elias, the Houston Astros' amateur scouting director, watched Clemens throw Monday before the right-hander signed with the Texas-based Skeeters, who play in the independent Atlantic League. "He is in condition to pitch and pitch successfully," said former Astros club president Tal Smith, who is now a consultant and special adviser to the Sugar Land ownership and witnessed Clemens' bullpen session Monday. ... Clemens, 50, will start for the Skeeters on Saturday and supposedly plans to take his comeback on a game-to-game basis. But both Clemens and the Astros could be motivated for the legendary pitcher to return to Houston after the rosters expand in September.

Would pitching for the Astros this September actually count as being in "the Bigs"?

Stick a fork in him.

Or better yet, stick a needle in him.

Seriously.

They are 28 games out of the wildcard race.

Well, if he pitches one game this season, he does get 15 more years of HOF eligibility.

Guess he's hoping by that time the PED users will be forgiven.

If he can pitch at 50 (and Moyer at 49), I guess there's still hope for my MLB career.

Pitching in a Independent League to batters who had the dreams and desire to play on the big stage but couldn't hit a fastball with movement or a curve ball.

Newspaper report this AM is that his fastball is topping out at 87 mph; don't think that will get him to the bigs.
