Shark in line for huge payday

08:37 AM ET 08.21 | Thanks to Jeff Skinner, we can forgive Logan Couture for daydreaming. Couture's eyes must have lit up when he saw the deal that Skinner, who edged out Couture for the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year after the 2010-11 season, inked with the Hurricanes [more than $34 million over the six-year term of the deal]. ... When Couture and the Sharks do get into discussions, regardless of where a potential rolled-back salary cap is set, Couture should be in for a huge payday provided he continues to improve on his year-over-year numbers. Couture ended the 2011-12 season tied for the team lead in goals with 31 despite playing through an injured left shoulder that required off-season surgery.

Is there any bigger indicator that the game still needs tweeking then the fact that 30 goal scorers are treated as 45-50 goal scorers used to be ???

After what we've seen this Summer, he's about to skinner the Hurricanes. They'll have their hide nailed to a barn door.

It's unfortunate that we've reached the point where a 20-25 goal scorer is considered a superstar in this league.

It was towards the end of the first period so I'd probably have been killed by then.
