08:07 AM ET 08.21 | Stan Van Gundy knows a thing or two about talented basketball players who are looking for a better supporting cast. [Van Gundy] wondered Monday if Derrick Rose will be one of the next to look for greener pastures if the Chicago Bulls don't land another superstar or win a championship. ... "I think Derrick Rose is a great, great representative of our league, and he's a great player. And he's got good players around him, very good players around him, but if (the Bulls) can't get another star there for him is he eventually going to look around and say, 'Hey, I've got to work this out on my own and I've got to find somehow to get somewhere else so that I will have a chance to play with another star.' The league has changed."

It should be noted that there are different generations of superstars. The Kobe, AI, Vince Carter, T-Mac era had a bunch of guys who were ball hogs and aside from Kobe not really winner just flashy superstars. They mainly changed teams because of mutual decisions as opposed to them forcing their way out of their situations.
The D12, LBJ, D-Wade, Melo era are filled with unfortunately selfish stars who really are looking out for themselves and don't read much into loyalty to a franchise (though some may argue against that if the players that have changed teams remain loyal to their new franchises). These players can be winners but are taking full advantage of free agency.
There is also a newer era of basketball that might buck the trend and bring back loyalty. Rose has made it very clear he is a Bull for life and is interested in representing the city that made him. Kevin Durant, a player who is also in more of the Derrick Rose era, has also proven that loyalty to a franchise and building something with what you have rather than chasing championships elsewhere can prove to be the trend of the future.
I hope that what we witnessed from 2010-2012 was a unique time in basketball history. The league went through an overhaul. Whether or not that is a good or bad thing is up for debate. While I do love seeing true loyalty (only players in our lifetime to truly do that: Kobe and Duncan) no one can deny that this is one of the most exciting times in NBA history since the 90s. Hopefully the dust has settled and teams are set. I'm done seeing major changes and "sources said" rumors swirling about discussing the next destination for the next major superstar. I think we will see stability for the next few years, and I hope that will develop into the next trend of the NBA.

Stan this is Derrick Rose not Dwight Howard . He is humble , a great player from Chicago and Chicago love s him . Why would the King of Chicago leave Stan ? Find a job man you are talking loud and ain't saying nothing .

While I agree with you on Rose (and see KD similarly) most of these guys originally come into the league with dreams of winning a championship. Unfortunately, big money and super teams become a priority with those that can demand it. Only one not to do so is Dirk.
I hope you're right about Rose, it makes for a nice 'Good Guy' story. But to quote Gordon Gekko "Greed is good"

D12, LBJ, Bron, Melo, etc...those guys just realized that winning is most important! They dont wanna be the Dominique Wilkins, Charles Barkley, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Reggie Miller, Patrick Ewing of this era...great players that didnt win a chip. Those guys were so "loyal" as you call it but ultimately that may have been the thing to prevent them from getting that jewelry. Maybe not in every case but my point is- at the end of the day, its about winning. And if you feel like your organization is not committted to that, then bolt for greener pastures. In all of our jobs if we felt like our company was about to tank, would we look for a better job or remain "loyal" and go down with the ship?
Im just sayin...

When I saw a Van Gundy saying something stupid I immediately thought it would be Jeff. Sounds like Stan got into his kool aid.
